There are a great number of superb sources of information on the internet, all of which have the advantage of being easy to update, and often contain small interesting “nuggets” of information and observations that rarely make in past the book editors. Unfortunately the information online can also be contradictory and wrong. Therefore I always use books first and always look in more that one to compare the information on any given animal. I will then expand this research to the web using the knowledge gained from the books to filter out any rubbish floating around on the web.

I have tried to put together a list of my preferred reference books, on both fish and Terrarium inhabitants such as Reptiles, Amphibians, Insects and Invertebrates.
